Chips in China
Check out this link to today's New York Times Online article about Intel's decision to put a 300-mm semiconductor wafer manufacturing plant in China. Notably, the plant will not produce any core technology that could be pirated by Chinese companies. But it is significant that the 300-mm technology is going to China--it's state-of-the-art, and I wonder if the plan is to move some production of today's core technology there in the future when 300-mm is no longer cutting edge.
