Jersey City, New Jersey: Your Gateway to Opportunity
We are enormously proud of the growth and development Jersey City, NJ has experienced in recent years. An unprecedented number of businesses of all types and sizes reside here. Around 35,000 new jobs and $3.8 billion in capital improvements have been made in the past six years. The number of financial, insurance, and real estate companies has grown 500% in the past 15 years. About 85% of all NASDAQ stocks are traded on our waterfront. The remarkable development in the city has brought thousands of individuals and families who now call Jersey City home.
Gateway to Opportunity and a Cultural Oasis

There are many outstanding reasons to locate or relocate to Jersey City. To begin with, Manhattan and its great business districts, ocean seaports, and three international airports are at our doorstep. Four PATH stations, the Holland Tunnel, four ferry routes, and the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail Transit System provide quick and easy access throughout the region. Newer and less expensive commercial spaces with impressive amenities and technologies are available with lower utility rates and operating costs than those in Manhattan. Businesses here thrive amid art studios, galleries, nationally-known retail establishments, unique shops and dining spots, and numerous recreational and sports facilities. Here, you’ll find new high-rise residences blending with beautiful historic homes. Most importantly, Jersey City offers a skilled workforce that is constantly being developed thanks to area schools such as New Jersey City University, St. Peter’s College, Hudson County Community College, and Stevens Institute of Technology.
Working to Ensure Success
The Jersey City Economic Development Corporation (EDC) drives our business and community growth. The agency utilizes its strategic partnerships with other city, state, and federal organizations and its own network of business leaders to help ensure the continuing success of commercial and industrial enterprises here. EDC offers assistance through a variety of programs and services such as the NJ Business Employment Incentive Program, the Business Relocation Assistance Grant, and customized employee-training initiatives. As the operator of New Jersey’s premier Urban Enterprise Zone (UEZ), EDC also offers relocation and facade rehabilitation grants, eligibility for tax credits on new hires and unemployment insurance-based awards, and the ability to purchase business-related items tax free, and to advertise and charge just 3.5% sales tax to UEZ member businesses.
