BOSTON SCIENTIFIC EXPANDS
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY LOCATION
In June, The Beacon Council
announced that Boston Scientific Symbiosis Corporation
will be expanding in its current location in Miami-Dade
County, and is also enhancing its guidewire product
line.
The Boston Scientific Miami
Technology Center is a 352,000-square-foot facility
that integrates leading-edge engineering, materials
science, and manufacturing to produce products that
support state-of-the-art, less invasive surgical techniques.
The company currently employs almost 800 people in the
Miami location.
The Beacon Council, along with
Enterprise Florida, assisted Boston Scientific with
a State of Florida Qualified Target Industry Tax Refund
(QTI). The company will make a new capital investment
of approximately $11,657,000 in Miami-Dade County. Boston
Scientific is committed to creating 120 new full-time
jobs within the first three years of its expansion,
with an average salary of approximately $37,400.
"It is so important for us
to assist our local companies to grow and expand, because
local business creates local jobs," says Frank Nero,
President & CEO of The Beacon Council. "We are pleased
to have been able to assist Boston Scientific in its
expansion, as this is indicative of increasing growth
of the entire biomedical industry in South Florida."
This project announcement is
significant, since biomedical is one of Miami-Dade's
targeted industries, and one that has been in the forefront
due to Scripps Florida locating in Palm Beach County,
and the expansion of the University of Miami's clinical
research and wet labs at the Miami Civic Center.
Recently, Governor Jeb Bush
led a mission to California to promote Florida's biomedical
industry at the international BIO 2004 trade show. The
state of Florida was well represented with a Florida
Pavilion exhibit, which showcased six regions from across
the state.
